WEEK 1: Here we go Mustangs!
Helllllllooooooo Mustangs! We are so excited to start our 15th season! Practice starts tomorrow and we can't wait to see our sea of orange heading to the pool. The practice schedule is always here if you need a quick refresher on times.
Regular Practices
Swimmers should meet on the basketball court for their warm-up, then their coach will escort them into the pool for practice. REMINDER: the Mustangs may NOT use the adult pool or baby pool areas during practice. This is consistent with prior years, but now formalized in our contract with the HOA. The Mustangs are also not supervising the adult and baby pool at any time during practices - including before, after or during practice. Parents are responsible for supervision of their children in pools outside of our main lap pool during practice, as well as being responsible entirely for any pools before and after practice. Instruct your kiddos about this ahead of time!
What To Bring To Practice Please make sure your swimmer has:
- Swimsuit & Towel
- Goggles
- Water
- Everything labeled!
When practice is over, swimmers must leave the main pool deck to make room for the next group.
Practice Make-Ups
We often have families ask if their swimmer can attend another age group practice as a make-up if they cannot make their assigned practice. Because our team is so full, we can’t allow extra swimmers in other practices. Instead, we encourage families to send their swimmer(s) to the Flex practice Mon, Tues, Wed. or Fridays from 7-8 AM. (There is no Flex practice on Thursdays.) This practice is for kids of all ages.
Team Shirts, Caps, Door Signs & Yard SignsWe will start sending these home at practice on Tuesday. Anything remaining will be available for pickup at the required parent meeting on Wednesday night. Your team shirt packet will also include personalized door signs to hang on your front door/window!
If you need an extra orange cap, you can also purchase at the parent meeting on Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY: Meet the Coaches/Mandatory Parent Meetings
Wednesday May 27 @ the MF Clubhouse -- if you have kiddos in more than one age group, just pick one meeting! Due to space, this is for parents only (swimmers will hear this info in practice!)
- 8 and Under parents: 6-6:30pm
- 9/10 parents: 6:45-7:15pm
- 11/12 parents: 7:30-8pm
- Teen parents: 8:15-8:45pm
You may have heard that all swim teams in Johnson County have some new regulations from the Johnson County Health Department which will change the way our meets look. We'll go through these with you as well as everything you need to know for the upcoming season. This meeting is mandatory for at least one parent, but we'll make it quick! If you're new to the team, there will also be some time for questions.
FRIDAY: Pancake Breakfast and Team Photos
On Friday, we will be taking individual, age group and team photos. Kids should wear their team shirts, which will be available at practice and the parent meeting this week. They do not need to wear team suits as we will not be in the water that day. Immediately following photos, kiddos will have a pancake breakfast from Chris Cakes! We have an abbreviated schedule on Friday:
- 10&Under + Ponies: 9am arrival (done by 10:15am)
- 11&Up: 9:30am arrival (done by 11am)
How To RSVP Your Swimmer For Meets
For each swim meet, you must declare your swimmer’s attendance on our website and list any preferences for events to swim. We cannot always accommodate all preferences, but we do look at them! Swimmers on ALL teams in our league are limited to three individual events and two relays. Newer swimmers may only start with a couple events as they are not legal in all strokes. As they improve, they will swim more events.
If you have any problems declaring for meets, reach out to Lindsay! If you have to arrive late or leave early from a meet, please let us know in the notes section when you declare so we don’t schedule you for an event.
Meet declaration and preferences are always due on Fridays at 5pm. Since our first meet is Wednesday, June 3, the first deadline for meet declaration is this Friday, May 29 at 5pm. If you do not declare, your swimmer will not have any events for the meet. If you know your schedule for the whole season, it is totally fine to declare for more than one meet at a time.
Inclement Weather - Practice Policy
If rain or thunderstorms are in the forecast, check your email before sending kids to practice! We will swim in light rain, but not if there is lightning. We always send out an email if practice is cancelled.
Swim Lessons
The Mustangs do not offer swim lessons sponsored by the team, but some of our coaches do teach them on their own. Feel free to reach out:
- Delaney Albright - 913-333-7963
- Ella Auman - 913-275-0602
Whew! Gold star if you made it this far...we try to only email once each week, so it's a little lengthy. Holler if you have any questions!
